Through extensive research and visits to different homes, it was observed that most shoe racks lacked traditional craftsmanship. They were often dull, mass-produced, and made from common materials such as plastic, rods, or wood. In response, Charika was designed as a multifunctional piece, not only for storing shoes but also for organizing everyday household items like plastic bags, newspaper, umbrellas and gardening tools, bringing functionality and thoughtful design together in one unit.

The aim was to observe the changes that have taken place in people’s lifestyles over the past hundred years. It was noted that earlier, everyday objects were crafted with great intricacy and aesthetic value, whereas in contemporary times, functionality has become the primary focus.
